Brief Description: 5-Day Training for those within their first year of employment

Full Description: This course is 5 days long (40 hours). It is designed as a basic training class for those individuals who are within their first year of employment who are: involved in the booking or supervision of prisoners, those who have direct contact or who control the movement or release of prisoners within the jail, and who meet the requirements of IAC 201-50.10 and 50.11.

Training will focus on jail standards in Iowa to include but not be limited to: Iowa Code, Legal standards, report writing, intake screenings, defensive tactics, and reasonable use of force, searches, suicide prevention and fingerprinting techniques. Participants will gain proficiency in each of the outlined lessons. There are also various electives made available to participants for inclusion of diverse topics and specialized populations.
