Certified Peace Officers who successfully complete this course will be able to:

* Properly define what a PIT maneuver is.
* Understand parameters of lowa Code 321.231(4).
* Understand and identify the proper language and considerations that should be in agency policies; this includes when, where, and how a PIT maneuver should be conducted.
* Understand ethical and use of force considerations.
* Understand why a PIT maneuver in certain situations can be construed as deadly force.
* Identify the proper sites where a PIT can most safely be conducted.
* Identify the proper vehicles that a PIT can most safely be conducted on.
* Understand the proper vehicle positioning and movements required to conduct a successful PIT

This course will cover State and Federal case law, proper PIT definition, considerations for agency policies covering the PIT maneuver, proper vehicle positioning, tactical considerations before, during, and after a successful PIT maneuver, and vehicle dynamics considerations for both the suspect vehicle and police vehicle.

The course will end with a practical exercise where passing Officers will successfully conduct four PIT maneuvers at different speeds and on each side of the vehicle.

This course will certify officers to conduct a PIT maneuver under 321.231(4).

No equipment needed.

**NEW WAIVER REQUIREMENT**
This training requires a liability waiver to attend. You must attach a dual-signed liability waiver, by both the enrolled individual and the agency head, to this registration in order to meet the pre-requisites for enrollment approval. If your waiver is not attached or not signed, your enrollment request will be denied. You cannot hold or save a spot for the training before you turn in your liability waiver.

The current liability waivers can be found in the Acadis Academy Resources Document Library. Please ensure you have selected and filled out the correct waiver, or your request for enrollment will be denied.
