Brief Description: Provide instructor candidates the skills to establish and operate a departmental rifle program

NOTICE: THE PRE-REQUISITE FOR THIS INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL IS THE SUCCESFUL COMPLETION OF THE FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL.

This one-week school course will provide Iowa Law Enforcement Academy endorsement as a rifle instructor and will give graduates the skills to establish and operate a departmental rifle program.

Topics to be covered will include:
* history of the law enforcement rifle
* nomenclature
* disassembly/assembly
* weapons maintenance
* weapons safety
* use of optics
* principles of rifle marksmanship
* instructor development
* ammunition, ballistics
* diagnosis of shooter induced problems and coaching techniques
* drills and exercises

Class enrollment is limited, and is only open to certified Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Firearms Instructors. This will provide a valid endorsement for three years, expiring 12/31/2028.

Iron sights, red dot sights, magnifiers, low-powered variable optics, and riflescopes are allowed; however, the use of magnification higher than 6x during any qualification course of fire is not allowed.

Equipment Needed:
* Patrol rifle with sling (preferably an adjustable tactical-style sling)
* 3 30-round magazines (minimum)
* 1,500 rounds of rifle ammunition
* Duty handgun and 100 rounds of ammunition
* Range clothing
* Inclement weather gear
* Spotting scope or binoculars
* Laptop or Smartphone for note-taking and testing

**NEW WAIVER REQUIREMENT**
This training requires a liability waiver to attend. You must attach a dual-signed liability waiver, by both the enrolled individual and the agency head, to this registration in order to meet the pre-requisites for enrollment approval. If your waiver is not attached or not signed, your enrollment request will be denied. You cannot hold or save a spot for the training before you turn in your liability waiver.

The current liability waivers can be found in the Acadis Academy Resources Document Library. Please ensure you have selected and filled out the correct waiver, or your request for enrollment will be denied.
