Brief Description: 5-Day Training to receive ILEA Firearms Instructor endorsement

Full Description: ****NEW WAIVER REQUIREMENT - SEE BELOW****

This course will give instructor candidates the skills to establish and operate a departmental firearms program, and successful graduates will receive ILEA Firearms Instructor endorsement. Topics to be covered will include:
* Weapon safety
* Principles of marksmanship and methods to teach them
* Diagnosis and correction of shooter-induced problems
* Coaching techniques
* Pistol and shotgun ballistics
* Range management
* Program development and documentation
* Range emergency management
* Student presentations for instructor development

Class enrollment is limited, and is only open to certified Iowa Law Enforcement Officers. Instructor candidates will be required to fire a qualifying score of 90% on the Firearms Instructor Pistol Qualification Course for admission. PLEASE NOTE: Due to eligibility verification requirements, this course operates on a waitlist. Signing up for this course does NOT guarantee you a spot; you will receive an email if your registration is approved. As per Iowa Administrative Code 501, all ILEA Instructor candidates must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a certified officer before attending an instructor course. If you do not meet these minimum requirements, your registration will not be approved.

Equipment Needed:
* A laptop/smart device. All instructor tests will now be completed online. Please come to class with an electronic device capable of accessing your Acadis account (laptop, smart phone or tablet).
* Weather-appropriate clothing and a brimmed hat
* Body armor
* Duty pistol and shotgun
* Duty belt with holster and duty flashlight
* 4 handgun magazines (minimum)
* 1,500 rounds of handgun ammunition, 50 birdshot, 20 buckshot, 40 slugs
* XL dark-colored plain shirt that will be ruined
* Note-taking material (both a notebook and a laptop is preferred)

**NEW WAIVER REQUIREMENT**
This training requires a liability waiver to attend. You must attach a dual-signed liability waiver, by both the enrolled individual and the agency head, to this registration in order to meet the pre-requisites for enrollment approval. If your waiver is not attached or not signed, your enrollment request will be denied. You cannot hold or save a spot for the training before you turn in your liability waiver.

The current liability waivers can be found in the Acadis Academy Resources Document Library. Please ensure you have selected and filled out the correct waiver, or your request for enrollment will be denied.
